Anatomy of a Blog: StatCounter

Scrolling down to the bottom of the right side of this blog you will see the StatCounter. This not only shows how many times the blog has been viewed in its lifetime (since August 2006), but if you click on the number, you will find yourself on the StatCounter.com website - a third party provider of all kinds of statistical data about website usage. With our free account, we can find out, based purely on cookies, how many Unique Visitors, First Time Visitors, and Returning Visitors our blog gets in a given day, week, month, quarter, or year. Knowing these statistics -- whether we just have a few "regulars" or if we get a lot of new viewers every month -- will help us assess the usefulness of our blog.

Blogger also offers us statistics about our blog’s use. Among other things, it tells us which pages were the most popular in the past week, month, year, and for all time. This tells us what people are most interested in, or how effective we have been in spreading the word about it. So, are you curious?
