The library houses and administers the University ID system. This week the first of a two-part upgrade was implemented. A new PVC printer now prints and encodes cards in less than 45 seconds - that's compared to the 10 minutes per card using the old system! This will make a significant difference during high peak times such as New Student Orientation when the processing of ID cards traditionally causes a bottleneck.
Part two of the long-overdue upgrade will come with the software update which will allow more efficient integration between the ID system and the campus information managment system. The look of the ID cards may change as well.
