Earthquake Damage Minimal in the Library

An oversize book fell from the top shelf.
A magnitude 5.1 earthquake rocked the Fullerton area on Friday night, March 28, 2014 at 9:09 p.m. Thankfully, the Darling Library had closed four hours earlier and no one was in the building.

Upon inspection Saturday morning a slow water leak was found in one of the HVAC closets on the second floor. Campus Safety was notified and the Operations Department personnel was called to check it out. The water was turned off to stop the leaking in the damaged pipe and a thorough investigation made sure there was no other water leakage in the area.

Nativity set made of wool sustained no damage.
Besides the water leak, approximately three books were found on the floor throughout the library and a few Nativity pieces were laying down. Kyrgyzstan sustained the most significant evidence of the temblor. (Ironically, the remaining international Nativity display was scheduled to be packed away on Monday for next Christmas.)

We will rebuild!
