Lindsey Sinnott Accepts Librarian Position

Since late April 2010, Lindsey Sinnott has been our Acquisitions Manager. A graduate of Azusa Pacific University, with a double major in Theology and Philosophy, she was working on a Master of Library and Information Science degree when she came aboard. In December she completed the MLIS degree from the iSchool at Drexel University College of Information Science and Technology online.

They say timing is everything. In this case, since the responsibilities of a systems librarian have turned more toward Web 2.0 and cloud-based computing — rather than Unix system administration or server maintenance — Lindsey's newly acquired knowledge and skills make her perfectly qualified to fill a position that has been vacant for five years.

She has already been fulfilling many of the responsibilities and duties in the job description, especially since she has acted as project manager for moving from Voyager to WMS. She will continue her role in library acquisitions and supervise the technical services staff.

When I stepped into the role of Director of Library Services five years ago, we began a global search for someone to fill my vacated spot. After six months we did not find a suitable applicant – someone who had the skills or professional preparation, and who also fit with the mission and core values of the University.

Strike one!

So we decided to look within our ranks. At that time, we had someone on staff with the aptitude and interest to learn and who believed in our mission. So we sent her to Library school. However, when she graduated with the MLIS degree, a hiring freeze at Hope prevented us from promoting her to the professional librarian position. Before the freeze was lifted, she was offered a position at another university and accepted it. That was two years ago.

Strike two!

As of June 1, 2011, Lindsey transitioned from manager to professional librarian with faculty rank and status. The positive impact she has had on our library over the last year has been felt by everyone. We are thrilled to welcome her to the profession and to add her to our library faculty here at Hope.
