Meet our new "international" librarian

Meet Ted Erskin, our new adjunct Research Librarian. After thirty-four years of teaching English and Social Sciences and then serving as librarian at one of the top high schools in the United States, Sunny Hills High School (America's Best High Schools, Newsweek), Ted is retiring from public education to embark on a new adventure. In fact, he and his wife, Luanne, are both retiring from public education and moving to China where they plan to work with young academics. Ted studied in China as a Fulbright-Hayes Scholar in 1998 and has had a growing desire to go back ever since. Through Ted and Luanne’s association with Jian Hua in Hong Kong, their primary goal will be to help young Chinese scholars acquire the research and composition skills necessary to win publication in professional journals.

Ted is no stranger to Hope as he has served as Adjunct Professor in World Geography here for about fourteen years from 1988 to 2002. But his association with us goes deeper and back further than that as an alumnus of Pacific Christian College (BA, 1978)!

Because of Web 2.0 technologies, Ted will be able to work with us seamlessly while he is in China. He will be contributing to the Darling Library’s online services, applying his invaluable experience and education (including doctoral studies in Information Management) to meet our needs in the following ways:

  • providing and supporting information literacy instruction to select online courses
  • developing online library user instructional materials
  • posting and updating online library information and resources on the library’s website
  • providing research consultation and instruction to online students as needed

We are thrilled to have this opportunity to venture out in partnership with this research scholar, information professional, and long time friend of the University to put the "international" in the Hope International University Darling Library!
