Heirloom Shoppe Donations

The Heirloom Shoppe, run completely by volunteers, is a Fullerton thrift shop that was started by the Pacific Christian Women’s Association back in 1984. Its sole mission is to provide funding for scholarships and campus projects at HIU (HIU News. 2010 Spirit of Hope Celebrity Concert & Awards Gala a Smashing Success). This year, the Board of the Heirloom Shoppe voted to award $2,000 to the Darling Library to fund two specific needs.

First, the library has been without a nice display case since a major renovation was begun in 1998. Old cases were taken out and replacements continued to be "on the back burner" for twelve years. With this case, we look forward to bringing attention to assets that have been hidden in storage for too long. Expect to read more about this in the coming year!

Another need filled by the Heirloom Shoppe donation was a nice globe. The previous globe stopped spinning on its axis and was outdated. It had to go. The new globe is beautiful and it literally lights up the library. Coincidentally, it is aptly named an Heirloom Globe!

Besides these outstanding gifts, the Heirloom Shoppe regularly gives used book donations to the Darling Library. When they receive books, they bring them to us. We process them, keeping those that fit with our curriculum needs, and sending those that don't to Better World Books to sell for us online, bringing a modest but steady stream of income to the library.

This volunteer organization dedicated to serving the needs of our student body is an often overlooked treasure... much like what you might find in their shop! Pay them a visit, volunteer, or just do some thrift shopping when you're in the area! It's for a good cause!
Thanks, Heirloom Shoppe!
