The Darling Library has begun binding periodicals for the first time this year. Periodicals are expensive. Not only must we pay annual subscription fees (that tend to cost more for libraries and increase each year), but periodicals must also be stored and should be bound. Of course, binding can also be expensive, but it allows for easier handling and storage. They are easier to keep track of than loose issues and replacing missing issues can be costly. This fall, we started binding those titles we have determined to "keep all". Next year we plan to bind back issues of titles we keep for twenty years.
Issues that are bound together, stay together!
