Out with the Old. In with the New.

In early July, members of the Bible faculty, Drs. Richardson and Matson, collaborated with Library staff to "weed" the Bible commentary section. Almost 10% of the collection was removed, leaving room for more up-to-date and relevant materials for student research papers. Discarded books were shipped to Better World Books (more about the Darling Library's use of this service in a future post).

Serials were weeded according to our retention policy. Faculty were invited to take what they were interested in keeping of the old issues. The remainder of the discarded serials were recycled.

Troy Tech High School Summer Intern

This summer we had an intern from local Troy High School. "Troy Tech" is a magnet school ranked as one of the top high schools in the United States. The Troy Tech program requires a 150-hour internship to be completed - usually during the summer before the senior year. Matt Timms, son of Hope's School of Graduate Studies Ministry Department Chair, Dr. David Timms, elected to do his internship in the Darling Library. He served the library well doing a wide variety of tasks that included the creation of library usage statistics reports, writing a recommendation for a new improved people counter, weeding out old periodicals, and preparing discarded books for shipping to Better World Books.

We hated to see him go!

New Hours

New Library Director

Robin Hartman was named Director of Library Services in mid-May as Armand Ternak left us to move to Florida with his family. The search for a new Systems and Technical Services Librarian will begin soon. Until the position is filled (estimated for June 2007), Robin will continue to fill that role along with the help of the rest of the Library staff.
